Parental Mental health

Although it’s often amazing and rewarding to watch your children grow up, and to help them learn to be independent, it can also be really hard work. Managing stresses and illness alongside being a parent or carer is a complicated part of life for many. Parental mental health can often get side-lined as the dynamic of a family changes over time so too can stress for parents. There are times when family life can start to feel tricky. If you're struggling, it's ok to reach out for support from friends, families and organisations that are here to help.

Here are a few ideas of how you can take care of your mental health:

Self-Care square Good to know!

Reading a book, going for a walk, listening to music. Self-care looks different for everyone, and it is important to find what you need and enjoy. It may take trial and error to discover what works best for you.

Stay connected square Good to know!

Reach out to friends or family members who can provide emotional support and practical help.

Sleep square Good to know!

Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Blue light from devices and screens can make it harder to fall asleep, so reduce blue light exposure from your phone or computer before bedtime.

Try a relaxing activity square Good to know!

Explore relaxation or wellness programs or apps, which may incorporate meditation, muscle relaxation, or breathing exercises.

Exercise square Good to know!

Just 30 minutes of walking every day can boost your mood and improve your health.
